What is Life Balance?


Let’s face it, life balance is a lot more than being able to schedule your work, family, and social responsibilities into your calendar without conflict. Creating a balanced life involves, having multiple interests. Having balance means having more than one interest and it’s not all "work" or "play," so to say. Avoiding spreading yourself too thin means being able to give each of your responsibilities the time and energy needed. Feeling focused, motivated, and at ease means despite how "busy" your schedule may be, you feel a sense of calmness and you can handle everything on your plate. Having time for yourself means being able to make yourself a priority by having moments each day to focus on your mental, emotional, and physical health such as going for walks, meditating, yoga, taking a long bath, reading a book, or anything else you enjoy.


Essentially, life balance involves finding a balance between the time and effort you invest in all areas of your life, including yourself, and feeling comfortable with all that you have on your plate.


It's important to recognize that life balance ebbs and flows. You may experience times in life where you feel as though you have found a good sense of balance and other times where you feel like you're tipping the scale.


In moments of tipping the scale, minutes on your mat can bring together the physical and mental disciplines that may help you achieve peacefulness of body and mind and help you relax and manage stress. Research has shown that just five minutes of meditation a day is enough to help clear the mind, improve mood, boost brain function, reduce stress, slow down the aging process and support a healthy metabolism. Some days you may have more time, and other days you may have less. Equally beneficial, 5 minutes of yoga poses a day is enough to improve flexibility, build muscles, and align your posture. It improves balance and helps concentration very effectively. Everyone has five minutes to introduce yoga into the daily routine. Give yourself that 5-minute gift to find balance in your life.
